Like the fist of an angry Hellboy

Alright guys, here's our latest dude!
It's Hellboy! And I think he turned out so cute. And he was always so worried that people thought he was a monster. How could something this cute be a monster!
You can see his huge arm here. It's just a little cone of sculpey that my boyfriend carved symbols into, and it just fits right over his regular arm. He also has a little belt buckle, communicator/locator thingy, a horseshoe and rosary. And of course his tail.
Here he is, smoking his cigar. You know, those aren't very good for you. This picture also shows a little detail on his coat.

Anyway, more pics up at the flickr site. And don't worry, Hellboy has a couple of kitties sitting around for him that I needlefelted. Some kitties may have been attacked by real kitties, but they are mostly intact. I'm sure I'll get pictures of Hellboy with his kitties eventually, so keep an eye out. Anyway, stay tuned! Christmas Haul, part 1!

Well, Christmas is over. I hope everyone had a great holiday! I thought I'd post some holiday swag here, started with our newest dude--one I didn't have anything to do with (except the crochet body part). It was a Christmas gift from my boyfriend. Behold!
Like I said, I've been playing Assassin's Creed a lot and so my boyfriend made me this little dude to commemorate that. He's so cute! I think he probably has the most weapons out of any dude we've ever made.

He has four throwing knives, a sword, a hidden dagger and a blade on his back. And the hidden dagger is actually hidden! Like, you can move it up and down and hide it under Altair's arm guards.
I don't know how many of you have played Assassin's Creed (it's well worth the $15 I picked it up for, so if anyone out there has a 360 and doesn't have it it's a great game) but Altair always hides in a group of scholars. This dude has more knives on his person than any scholar I've ever seen, and yet no one ever gives him crap for it.

Anyway, this is just one of the really cool things I got for Christmas--I'll also be posting some (hopefully really cool) stuff that I made for other people, so stay tuned! Leave a comment if you got something adorably geeky for a present this holiday season!

Hold on to your nuts

Do you think that Christmas is too commercialized? Do you wish that you could get something that embraces the holiday spirit, yet allows you to escape the shallow consumerism of our society?

Yeah, me neither. I want these. They are awesome. They are available at Hammacher Schlemmer as a set. I wish they sold them separately though! I'm sure you can guess which one is my favorite.

Artoo!! So cute. Sometime I feel bad that Lucas and Co is pimping out artoo so much (I'm looking at you, soy sauce container) but at the same time I like seeing all of these nerdy applications to real world products. So conflicted!

Cuteness Deteced in the Delta Quadrant. Engage!

Don't worry guys, Janeway didn't mess with the timeline again. Hey, remember that time Paris and Janeway broke the warp barrier and then turned into giant lizards and mated? Yeah, that was gross. Anyway, I just wanted to show everyone these adorably cute little guys that I found on ravelry made by user Nimoe.

Aren't they just adorable?! You know, Voyager never gets enough love. I mean, everyone loves the original Star Trek, even those corny old ones (whoops, ignore my contribution to that) and the one with that bald guy or whatever. But Voyager is where it's at! CURSE YOU SPIKE NETWORK for not playing it everyday anymore. CURSE YOU!! NO ONE WANTS TO WATCH 260239082 EPISODES OF CSI OR UNSOLVED MYSTERIES!!!! BRING BACK VOYAGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, I'll admit I'm not the biggest Neelix fan. He was really annoying and the only reason he was even barely tolerable was because of his man-crush (Vulcan-crush?) on Tuvok and that one episode where they "merged together" (wink wink) and formed Tuvix. That being said, I think he is captured perfectly here. That yarn for his body? Incredible. His facial hair? Spot on. In yarn form he is tolerable and adorable and--dare I say?--cute.
The Doctor! Yay, he's my favorite. I really like the way his hair is done, too, it's great and probably much easier to do than the way I do my hair. I like how serious he is.
And finally Janeway, complete with doofy hair. Her hair really was bad for the first couple of seasons but I think this little amigurumi captures it perfectly.

Anyway, I hope you guys like this little crew. I LOVE them, and I think they're adorable. Except for Harry. I hate Harry and he plays the clarinet like a jerk. And he's a wuss. I wish they would have killed him in that one episode where they did kill him but there was a paralell crew and they took the parallel Harry to bring back to the Voyager that survived. That was dumb, Janeway.

God of Cute

So here's one of our new dudes! Hint: he has nothing to do with the kitty. I told you we were really close to finishing him! (I know, I usually overestimate how fast we work, but this time it's actually true). Presenting:
It's Kratos! He was a custom order, and even though we said we'd stop doing those he sounded way to cool to pass up. I made him with silver yarn and then his little tattoos were painted on. He does look kind of innocent, huh? It's his eyes. They're too clear and big and black, they haven't seen enough death. Or something. He certainly has the weapons for a lot of carnage.
And his little chains can unwrap from his arms. The blades can come off the chains too, if you're into that. I also stitched a tiny scar on his right eye, but you can barely see it. He even has a secret item.
Bah! He killed Medusa! The perspective on this shot makes it look like her head is huge, but it's not really that big. I think the little snakes are really cute, they're just a chain stitch that I twisted into a little curly lock of evil.

Anyway, it was so much fun making little Kratos. I think he can be bloodthirsty and adorable at the same time. I hope you guys like him! Stay tuned for the kitty-related dude, coming soon.

A team effort

Alrighty everyone! I've been tantalizing you with a hint of a new dude, and after much procrastinating he is finally done! I present to you:
A Team Fortress 2 Engineer! Okay, for those of you who don't have the Orange Box, I'll just fill you in. The engineer is this little dude here, who apparently does something very important with this little dispenser thingy. Alright, I admit it, I've never played TF2, mainly because I don't want to pay for a gold account on Xbox Live, and also because I'm scared of Xbox Live users. I do have the Orange Box though, so I'm half way there. Anyway--oh yeah, the dude.See, his little goggles come off too! And his little hat, of course. And he can hold his little wrench. I have to say, I'm most impressed with him, I think he turned out just perfect. Here's a closeup of the dispenser.

I think it's so cool! It's actually pretty big too, there's a lot of sculpey on that thing.

Anyway, if you want to see more pictures check out my flicker, as always. I'm not sure if we are really planning on anything big for our next project (DANGIT I still want to do Leonidas though), but I am working on a personal project that I'll probably post here later. Anyway, stay tuned!

Get rich quick!

Need a little extra cash this weekend? I've got just the project for you--it will literally make money materialize in front of your face! You don't even have to go looking through grass or anything! Okay, it's not OUR money, you know, REAL money, necessarily, but rupee money, so if you're planning a trip to Hyrule it will come in handy at least. For those looking to stay home (Hyrule always seems to be in some sort of peril anyway), it will make a great cat toy. Look!
They're just made out of two pieces of felt and then embroidered shut with (mostly) matching embroidery floss. As you can see, they still get the basic idea across even if you are a terrible embroiderer and can't draw a straight line to save your life. I stuffed some catnip in them too, and the cats have been going crazy over them. Wanna see? Hm, what's that? You don't want to see pics of my kitties? Too bad, here they are anyway.

Was this whole post just a giant excuse to show pictures of my kitties? Perhaps. But it really is funny to see them running around with rupees in their mouth, and there aren't enough geeky pet toys out there. Or any, really.

Anyway, it's just a fun weekend craft that takes less than 20 minutes, so make some up and watch your kitties go crazy! Stay tuned for more craziness--I promise, no more kitty pictures.

The best (and only) kind of doubles: evil doubles!

Okay everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but I hope once I show you what we've been working on, you'll forgive me! I present to you: the Star Trek crew! But not just any crew--the evil Star Trek crew!
Aren't they cute? They are from the "Mirror, mirror" episode of the original Star Trek series. We made (from left to right) Uhura, Marlena, Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Scotty. Aren't they so evil, with their little gold sashes? They have lots of little evil badges on, too. I love Kirk's little sparkly vest. Here's a closeup of Kirk and Spock, best (evil) buds:
I think the most challenging thing on this set of dudes was their hair (on my end, at least, I think those incredibly tiny sculpey badges were probably hard on the boyfriend), but I think in the end it turned out so well. Spock's little bowl cut totally makes him, and Kirk's combover/widow's peak hair looks awesome. Uhura's hair was the most difficult, but it definitely turned out super cute.
Okay, well, you can't really see it that well here, but I fixed it all up really nice in a little up-do. I think it totally looks like her, though. I like how the women get all sexified--maybe it's a subliminal message showing that scantily clad women equal evil women? Who knows.

Oh yeah, and here are all of their little extras:
See the two phasers? Well, they have a little black part that comes off, and it's held on by magnets. The left one shows the black part that is separated, and the right one has everything all together. And the little communicator flips open, too. I think the communicator is really cute.

Okay, anyway, that's it! I hope you guys like it. This was a really big custom order, so now that it's done we'll have some more time to finish Zelda and do more projects. Or I can just play Mass Effect some more. How come no one told me that game was so awesome?

I am planning on putting up some free patterns this week, to try and atone for my laziness in blogging this week. It's time to save the world

What do you say to that, Link? Nothing! Get it? Because Link doesn't talk! Okay, whatever. Anyway, here is Link! I was going to wait to post him until we had Zelda done, but I'm impatient and I want to show him off now, so here he is!
I think he's so adorable! I hardly did any work on him either, the boyfriend did most of the work this time. He did all of the decorative stitching and everything, which goes all around his hat and his tunic. He has little gauntlets too, which I think look a little cumbersome, but the boyfriend likes them. Anyway, that is just a picture of plain Link, here's a picture of his accessories.
He has a Master Sword, a shield, an ocarina, and a lonlon milk bottle. It's really very cute, it has a little label with a little cow on it and everything. We just found these little empty bottle charm thingies at Hobby Lobby, and he painted the inside white with a little paint and then taped the little label on. And Link can carry everything on him, too, except the ocarina. Like Boromir, his shield attaches to his back, and his sword fits in behind the shield. The milk can be attached on the belt too, it has a little loop on the top. Here's a better view of how it attaches:

Zelda will be following soon (I hope...) but we're still working on the Star Trek people, so who knows when we'll get a chance to finish her. Hopefully we're going to have the Star Trek crew finished by next week--they are going to be SO cool, by the way--so that will free up some time to work on our little side projects. Of course, with Mass Effect taking up a lot of my free time, who knows. I'll try to stay on task though! Stay tuned!

Chii?

Hey there everyone! We just finished a custom order last night, and I wanted to share--I know a couple of people have asked if I would make these, so I thought you guys might be interested.
He he! They are little Chii and Freya from the Chobits anime! I'm always kind of wary of making anime people, because my human Futurama people didn't turn out so well (I know, I know, they're not anime, but they are animated, so they translate the same) but I think these guys actually turned out really well. The boyfriend actually did most of the work on these, I pretty much just did the hand-sewing.
Their dresses were actually pretty complicated, compared to some of the people we have done in the past. And they were both different, too, even though they look similar. I think my favorite part of them is the back:
With the little lace up! And the ribbons. The black one has a lace up too, but no ribbons. Her dress is more complicated looking in the back, though. And they both have lace around the bottom of their dresses, which we have never used before, but which was pretty easy to work with and turned out looking really cute.

Anyway, that's it! I just wanted to let you guys know that we've been working over here, contrary to what it might seem like at times. We actually have another dude finished, but he's part of a pair, and I'm wondering if I should wait to post him until the other one is done.

Have a great fourth of July, Americans! And it's the boyfriend's birthday today, so there's going to be cake and festivities tonight, but hopefully we might still get some work done. Stay tuned!

The shirt off my back

Hey guys! We've been really busy lately making dudes--unfortunately, we've been making them all at once, so there are no updates as of right now. Next week there will probably be more finished dudes to show off than I know what to do with, but right now I'm bone dry.

So I thought I would talk to you guys today about something very important: my wardrobe. I'm in need of new shirts, and with a buttload of freezer paper and an artistic boyfriend with a lot of time on his hands ready to draw and cut out pictures, I've been researching some nerdy shirts that I would like to own. There are a couple of great freezer paper tutorials here and here if anyone is interested in making their own. It's pretty easy, and really fun.

I know it's kind of a desperate way to parade your hobbies, but it's always a nice way to start a conversation with someone who is a fan of something you are. For instance, I know that the host at my Chili's likes Star Wars, because he commented on my shirt once. It's nice just to know there are other nerds out there. Onward and upward!
A Planet Express shirt. I'm not a fan of pink, but I love the Planet Express logo and so this one is a must-have. I like shirts that are kind of subtle (i.e. no characters spouting off quotes, or something equally stupid like "I see stupid people" or something like that) and I think this one is nice enough not to make the uninitiated (few though they may be, Futurama reruns are on all the time) confused or stare at my chest.

Blue Sun is a given. I've actually got the freezer paper stencil cut out, I just need to buy a shirt to stencil it on to. Again, it's a nice eye pleasing design that the uninitiated (probably very few, in this case) won't know that's it's a reference to a show.
Classic Zelda shirt. I might feel like a poser in this though, since I've only played Wind Waker. Even worse than that, I have tried to play the other ones (except Twilight Princess, which I might get around to eventually, after I finish Okami for the billionth time) and I don't like them. JUMP LINK, JUMP! Why doesn't Link jump? I'm sorry, I can't play a game where I can't make my avatar jump. I know, it's pathetic. Anyway.
I like this shirt, I would just never wear it because I don't want to draw the comparisons between me and a Wookie. I just wanted to post it because I thought it was cute and clever, and a 6 foot tall guy might be reading this and decide that it would be a good look for him.

Anyway, that's all the ideas I had for now. If anyone owns any shirts in this vein, or sees any other really cute ones, feel free to leave a comment!

Also, we have just started a BIG custom order. It's going to be the original Star Trek cast. I won't say any more than that, but it is going to be ROCKIN. It will probably take me forever and a day to make everyone, but I'm going to do it! You guys will die when you see it (if you are Star Trek fans, that is. If you're not, they'll still be cute!) Knights of the Old Republic

Alright, we finished another custom order! Whoo! Anyway, this little guy is Darth Revan from "Knights of the Old Republic". He's the guy (or girl) that you play as during the game. I have never played it, but the boyfriend has, but I always thought it looked fun. Maybe I'll have to dig it up and play it now. Anyway, viola! Here he is:

He looks so evil, with his little hood! He actually has a lot of different layers--the brown part (which has decorative sewing and painting on it), the red thing that hangs down, the gray belt, and then the ring with the straps coming off of it. It's a pretty cool costume, actually.
His cloak can be removed too, there are little claspies (kind of like Superman's cape) that hold it on. His helmet comes off to, and kind of snaps on the front of his face.
Our customer wanted a lighstaff, too, that's why the lightsaber looks a little bigger than normal. He looks kind of cute without his helmet on!

Well, that's it for now. I'm having some trouble deciding what to work on next--I do want to finish Batman, but I also want to do more Star Wars characters. I was thinking about making the Max Rebo Band, but I'm not sure if anyone would even want that. I still really want to do Link and Zelda, though, so I might do them first, I don't know. Ah! It's so frustrating.

Anyway, stay tuned! I know we'll have something cool completed by the end of the week.

I doubt the reach of HIS arm!

Because he's so tiny! Get it? Alright, nevermind. Anyway, here he is, (three days later than I promised, I know! I've been so bad!) Eomer, son of Eomund, rider of Rohan!
He he! Isn't he cute? He was pretty complicated, too. His helmet, of course, is amazing, and made out of scupey. He has, like, four layers of felt on---the green part (you can only see it sticking out of the front a little bit) and then the silver scale thing over that, and then the red armor part is two layers of felt. Then, everything is painted, and he has little gauntlets and fake chain mail. Here's his helmet:

It has a little horsey on the front and everything! And of course the horse tail (or whatever it is supposed to be) coming out of the top of the helmet. Look at all of the little details and engravings! It's crazy.

And here's everything all laid out--his helmet, and sword. His sword just tucks into his belt.

Anyway, I was so excited to share him with you guys, I just couldn't wait! We will be putting some better pictures on flickr later today or tomorrow, so keep an eye out for them. Cobra Commander is next, we're planning on having him ready by this weekend.

Warrior woman, Zoe Washburne

Alright everybody, next on the individual installment is Zoe Washburne! I'm really happy with how she turned out, I was worried about her overall look but in the end she turned out great. She is the first character I used doll hair for, and it turned out looking really great. It was insane to work with, though. Every time you touched the hair it would double in size, and little pieces would fall out everywhere--it was really hard to work with.
We decided to go with her outfit for the first episode (like we did for most of the characters) and so she has her little green jacket on.
See the little lines on the jacket? Those were painted on to imitate the quilting pattern on the jacket. I think it turned out looking really well, and it saved me the trouble of actually freehand quilting that stuff on.
And of course she has her shotgun. She has two belts, the black one with the gold buckle sits straight on, high up, and her ammo belt is slung down low. She has little three sections of bullets around her lower belt, they're pretty cool actually. And then of course she has a (working!) buckle on that belt too. Her gun can go in it's little holster on her lower belt--it's a pretty big gun, though, so it does kind of drag on the ground.
Aww, aren't they cute? I like Wash's outfit, too, his shirt is so cute! More on him later, for now enjoy these pictures!

Jayne Cobb Amigurumi

Okay, everyone wanted to see Jayne the most, so here he is! The hero of Canton in the flesh (well, yarn):

Ta da! He has his hat--of course. We already had the colors, too, because the boy wanted to knit a Jayne hat for himself. That didn't turn out to well. And yes, I crocheted the hat, but only because I cannot knit with double pointed needles to save my life. And the little poof ball on top! I like that part.

And of course, where would Jayne be without his favorite gun? Probably dead somewhere, but that's not the point. Here's Vera, made out of sculpey of course, hooked onto Jayne via a strap around his chest. His belt has little pockets on it, too. And his belt buckle is actually functional! How crazy is that?
He doesn't have much in the way of accessories, but the ones that he does have I think are really great. He even has his little wrist cuff! And grenades, of course. I was worried about how he would turn out, being kind of stubbly with really short hair (which is really hard to imitate in crochet and felt) but I think he is really great looking.

Anyway, Jayne is the first Firefly crew member we have pictures of, but there are eight more to go! Stay tuned.
