STOP: Hammer Time

So Thor came out a couple of weeks ago.  I saw it, it was okay, I guess.  I believe that Natalie Portman is an astrophysicist as much as I believe Denise Richards is a nuclear physicist in that James Bond movie, which is to say, not at all.  But as far as the movie goes, everything that didn't take place on Earth was pretty frakking sweet.  I love Asgard, and all the other god characters, and I really hoped that Thor and that awesome warrior chick would hook up, but alas.  Also, Heimdall was awesome, but I really wouldn't want to have his job.  The vacation days must suck, although on the plus side I guess you get to see other people vacationing?  No, that sucks even more.  But he was still cool.

ANYWAY, back to the point.  I was browsing the internet one day (as one does) and I came across this picture:
And I thought, well, that's a pretty random picture.  Thor as a frog?  Well, it turns out it's a thing!  And I immediately fell in love with Throg, and felt the need to capture him in knit/crochet form immediately.  And here he is!

I was really not feeling up to making a frog pattern, so I just modified this pattern by Spud and Chloe.  I was worried about the eyes not sitting right, but I think it turned out all right.  Most of his accessories are crocheted, except the hammer, which I just made out of felt because I was done with trying to crochet a square.  Round I can do, square eludes me.  Anyway, I think I'm most proud of his hat.  I had to block those little wing thingies to death before they would even be remotely straight, and the one on the left still wants to curl.

Anyway, I'm really pleased with him!  Boyfriend doubted he would turn out, and for a while there he did look kind of silly, but in the end I think he turned out awesomely.  Let me know what you think!

Stay tuned!

Edited to add: New title for post.  It just hit me!

No, it's YOUR turn to empty the dark matter box.

Haven't you always wanted your own special little pet to curl up on your lap on cold winter nights? Haven't you ever wondered why your stupid cat can't finish the large dripping ham you gave them? Do you have a problem with large moose in your yard? Well don't worry any more! Check this baby out:

As an added bonus, he ever poops spaceship fuel! (Warning--said poop fuel may be extremely heavy and devastatingly smelly).

But wait! Act now and he's yours for free! You just need to be a member of Ravelry to be able to pick this little guy up and have him guard/eat your valuables and loved ones for years to come. Stay tuned for more great stuff coming up next!

This ALMOST makes me want a baby

I said ALMOST. Don't freak out, parents and/or boyfriend, if you are reading this. I just love this little costume. Also, do you think it is child abuse if you just have a child to dress them up in cute little cosplay clothes? I think that using a monkey might work too. They like wearing clothes, right? What was I talking about again? Oh yeah. Check out this too too cute adorable little baby outfit!

It's a tiny Link! Look how cute! I love the little belt. And the hat. Okay, I love everything about it. How adorable!!

The quiver, complete with arrows--I mean, baby bottle. They should have made it look like a lon lon milk bottle, but whatever. I guess you can't give arrows to babies, or something. Who knows. I thought babies loved playing with pointy sticks!

And this is the chest that all of those little tiny adorable clothes came in. Note: baby not included in the chest. We hope not, anyway.

Anyway, this was made by a craftster user for a friend's baby. What a cute gift! I love it. Maybe the cats want to play dress up...I'll let you know how that goes...

Stay tuned!

Tree of Gondor Blanket

I need this blanket. Anyone have many, many hours of nothing to do, lots of patience and the ability to knit well? Cause if you can, I want this:
It's a Tree of Gondor throw! I love the leaves around the blanket! And the runes! And the tree! I want everything on it. I even love the color. White would be cool too, but I bet it would be very hard to see. Anyway, this blanket was made by ravelry user lilaclinny as a wedding present for her brother and sister-in-law. How lucky are they?! What an awesome present. The runes say "True Love"--I would probably want to change mine to "Kick Ass" or something along those lines--but I get the sentiment behind it.

If anyone is adventurous enough to try this, there isn't really a pattern, just this tree chart made by dragoncrafter. The runes look like knit/purl variations and I'm sure there's a nice leafy stitch in some stitch books for the edges. Unfortunately there aren't any really good closeup pictures of the rest of the squares, but maybe if I ever feel like taking on such a huge project I will give this a try.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend! Stay tuned!

This is too cool for it to be so hot outside

Hey everyone, I know it's probably hotter than Hades for everyone, especially here in stupid Texas, but I just wanted to share with you this scarf I found via Craft, from flickr user genegrl1.

I am just totally in awe of this scarf. Not only is it the coolest Lost scarf I've ever seen (okay, it's also the only one) but the girl has some seriously amazing knitting powers. My colorowork never turns out looking that clean, even after blocking, and I am totally jealous. But wait, there's more! Was the scarf not awesome enough?
It's freaking reversible! Ahh! It's too cool. The girl had a lot of patience, I can tell you that. This must have taken forever.

Anyway, just a quick little project to share! Trying to spread the geeky love. Stay tuned everybody!

Portal Crafts!

I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while, we have been working hard on new guys and we saw Iron Man yesterday. It was awesome, by the way. We don't really go to the movies very often (mainly because I hate being around so many people who are annoying) but I'm glad we saw it in theaters.

Anyway, I wanted to share with you guys some Portal themed stuff! If you haven't played Portal, you should, it's amazingly fun and it's sold separately from the Orange Box now, so it's only $20. You can download it here and you don't even have to get out of your pajamas to play it! Okay, yeah, crafts. Everyone has probably seen the plushy weighted companion cube, so I'm not going to post it, I'm just going to post some other stuff I found/made I thought was interesting. Here we go.

1. Of course, I'm putting mine first. Bleh.
Ignore the blue, it was still blocking while I took this picture. I knitted this! I suck at intarsia/fair isle, it's really hard. There are parts of this that are bumpy and stick out really funny, but overall I think it turned out all right. My plan was to make nine of these squares from the game and then make a blanket out of it, but this one square took so long to do that I kind of scrapped the idea. Maybe I'll pick it up again once I finish making dudes.

2.This is from an egg challenge over at Kotaku, and this guy was the winner. Okay, it's not so much a craft, but I still think it is really clever. There are more egg entries (including another Portal one that I really like, plus an Okami one) here if anyone is interested.

3. Okay, I know I said no companion cubes, but this one is a cake! A cake companion cube. I wonder if GlaDOS would approve. Probably not.
4. Okay, I thought this one was really cool. Unfortunately, it looks like it's half finished, or maybe I just can't find any more pictures. This is from Craftster user DinkyTiny who made a little hair clip for her cosplay, which from the tiny sketch posted looks pretty cool.
These are the little spheres that fall off of GlaDOS at the end of the game. This one is the anger sphere, but I can't find any pictures of any of the other ones. It looks like she's going to AKon though, so if anyone is going there make sure to take pictures! I'm not going this year, all I like to do is sit around and make fun of Naruto cosplayers and that's not really worth $30 to me.

5. This one isn't a craft per se, but it's a really interesting article written about GlaDOS and some insights into what the game developers might have been thinking when they made her.
The first picture is from the game, and the second picture is an artist's rendering of a personified GlaDOS. Anyway, I can't explain it very well, but it's a really interesting article and I'm not doing it justice talking jibberish about it. You can read it here.

Okay, that's all the Portal crafts for today! I think we might possibly finish up Boba Fett today, but no promises. He's taking a lot longer than I though, but he's going to be super awesome. Also Roy Mustang from FullMetal Alchemist is almost done, I'll post pictures of both of them once they are finished.
